RUMORMILL...

The rumormill can be vicious. The rumormill can be devastating. The rumormill is not-always-as-TRUE as one would like it to be.

Let's take a deep breath. Let's wipe the spittle from our mouths (I seem to have to say that a lot lately) and calm down a bit. THE ONLY FACTS SO FAR ARE...

NO ONE WAS ARRESTED YESTERDAY.
TWO PEOPLE WERE FIRED FROM THE STATE'S ATTORNEY'S OFFICE. (or asked to resign) Those two people have been questioned by federal agents investigating an alleged drug ring in Springfield.

That's pretty much it. The rest is speculation at this point. EVERYONE who is ANYONE in Springfield is adding their two cents and the stories keep getting bigger and bigger.

"Hey, did you hear? So-and-so has been in rehab for months and now they're being bust in this coke ring"

"Hey, this goes all the way to the top. Did you hear? So-and-so was dragged from his office in hand-cuffs by the Feds. Heads are going to roll..."

"Hey, my reliable source is telling me that blah, blah, blah, blee, blee, blee."

In such a small town, everyone is connected to someone who knows somebody....Maybe only a two degree of separation.

Be careful. Half of the rumors I was told yesterday turned out to be untrue.

My best advice? Hush for a while and just listen. You'll be amazed at the truth you'll hear in the silence.

Hush? For crying out loud, I am not talking, just listening and I am amazed at what I am hearing......since it keeps coming true.

A highly placed elected offical, as reported in the SJ-R's Sunday edition, was believed to be involved in the cocaine investigation. On Monday, I heard the name of the offical, along with the name of one of the two Asst State's Attys. Sure enough, I picked up Thursday's paper and there it was.

Today, I heard about the bank, two of the taverns and a judge.....I guess I will stay tuned for the newspaper story.

I'm not even asking questions and I getting reliable information....where are the "news radio" reporters???

As reported by the SJ-R, and also in Bernie's column, elected Sangamon County Clerk, Joe Aiello is a person of interest in the federal investigation. A lot will start hapening when the grand jury convenes on Wednesday.
