I'm seeing all of these posts on other blogs regarding the decision by WMAY management to let Mike Wilson go. I'm seeing all of these posts on other blogs bashing me and my show. So, let's see if you have the courage to say it (or write it) to my face.
I believe in free speech. But I have to wonder what good is any of this doing anyone at all??

I won't be listening to your show anytime soon. You should have been let go before Mike. That's the bottom line. Budget cuts my ass.
Man, people are cold.
I don't get how these sensitive open-minded liberal listeners can have no problem making harsh personal attacks on other employees at your station. I don't listen during the day - gotta work - but I can't imagine having so much bile built up for something on the flipping radio.
Grow up people.
For the record, the few times I've heard you, I thought you have a smooth voice.
Regretablly Pamela, the strength of feeling is that given the compared talents of yourself and Mike.... The wrong person is leaving the station.
Nothing personal but people are apparently very loyal to Mike... Get used to it I guess....
I don't think you understand, tourist. I'm not upset or thin-skinned. That's the nature of the business. I said it on my show this morning. There are people that love what I do and there are people that hate what I do. I respect that. I respect those that think I should have been let go rather than Mike. What I don't respect are pot-shots and personal attacks. That just shows a lack of simple intelligence.
Why should we waste our time telling you what you already know here, where it will be read by maybe five other people, when we can get much more bang for our buck criticizing your pseudo-xhristian, closet-liberalness on a more heavily trafficked blog?

Wow. I'm stunned at the lack of common decency Mike's 'fans' have shown today.
Are people seriously not socialized enough that they have no problem demeaning a person to their face? Perhaps it's the veil of anonymity that the internet provides, or maybe these people really are just enormous jerks in real life.
Pam, I like your style. Mike's show wasn't my cup of tea because I'm usually not in the mood for negativity right when I get off work, but I'm perfectly willing to accept that he filled a niche, obviously has a fan base, and is a fine broadcaster. I would never, and could never bash him with the viciousness that you've had to put up with today because no person's family should have to read that sort of thing about a loved one.
People just don't think before they type. Keep your head up!

I still think you are a very nice person and truly appreciate you always giving me respect whenever I have called or stopped by to say hi, even though you have called me a coward before and have changed my words around on Jim's blog before.
What is miffing so many people off is that Mike was never rude to his callers as in name calling, yelling, cursing, etc., and always presented himself in a dignified and classy manner that showed his level of intelligence. I do not think you are the one who should have been fired, but emotions are running high...especially in light of all of Midwest's "family & locally oriented" bs they spout on commericals.

I don't always agree with you, Pam, but I always have WMAY tuned in on my radio when your show is on. I think people are just upset right now at the fact we don't know WHY Mike was fired but, then again-- if I was fired from my job, is it really anyone else's business to the reason? No. I understand everyone asking for an explanation though-- I wouldn't mind one myself-- but there is nothing we the listeners can do to bring Mike back on the air. We can boycott advertisers, call MFB and complain, but the buck has been passed. For those listeners that are bashing Pam-- if you don't like the show, don't listen to it. No good is going to come of you bashing Pam (or the other hosts) on Mike's blog, etc. It's just going to make all of us listeners sound like immature idiots and no offense- I'm not so don't paint me that way either. There are rational listeners out there as well!
Hang in there Pam. Even if I don't always agree with you, it NEVER hurts to consider another viewpoint on issues.

I have thousands of people "trafficing" my blog everyday, reunelect. However, not everyone likes to comment. But I'm certainly glad you did.
Hard to believe how much it sucks that Mike is gone and there is NOTHING we can do about it! The station should be ashamed. I am shocked. The hosts being so nonchalant makes it even more dispicable and appalling.

Nonchalant? I did an entire hour and a half about this on Friday. Jim Leach has blogged about it, and Molson and Lee have discussed it on their boards. I'm not really sure what else you expect us to do?

if he was let go for reasons other than "budgetary" and if you actually considered him a friend and not just a co-worker, perhaps standing up for him would have been in order.

Pam, I listen to your show usually. I think it's wrong to demand that you should have been let go first (seniority rules?!?). But I noticed several comments were made about the fact that your frequent comments about being a Southern girl, (manners, church, etc.) don't match up with how you conduct your evening social life off-air (which apparently Springfield seems to know about) and the fact that you frequently are not on-air, as a result of that social life.
Be careful, the whole world is watching (and corporate, too).

If Mike was let go for buget reasons he should have been given two weeks notice. I have been listening to WMAY for seven years,but not anymore.
Why you jealous Pam? You can leave now and find something better. We sure as hell are not going to stop you. Nothing worth listening to on wmay anyhow so all the host should leave and start over.
I think "nonchalant" can be used when describing hosts that seem to act like being laid off is not a bog deal..."he'll land on his feet" and other comments don't seem empathetic to me...they seem pathetic

I totally disagree with the majority of your points of view, I also think you are poorly educated; but, I hear your show every chance I get in order to see and learn a different point of view. You're not expendable in that sense. I think Mike should of been let go, a long time ago. I use to listen to his show also. I agree with just about everything he said and believed; a true gentleman! the problem was the listeners who called in, who created a very negative and bizzare atmosphere. he had very little control. also, his views must of been unpopular. This atmosphere must of been bad for business. from a business point of view, it was a good decision. I love him though...

Sorry for jumping into the conversation late but since I moved I am just now getting back into blogging.
I will admit that when I heard that Mike had been laid off one of the first thoughts that I had was how could they lay him off before you. Of course this was a knee jerk reaction based on the fact that he has been at the station longer and had seniority has well as the fact that I did tend to enjoy his show more.
This is not to say however that I think you should be fired or that you do not have a good show. Although I very seldomly agree with you I must say that you very open minded to hearing others points of view and that I do enjoy hearing your side of the issue because many times it educated me on the other side of the coin. (unfortunatly I have not been able to listen in about a month because of my move.) If I were still around though I am sure that I would still be listening to your show, mind you cursing your position all the way.
In any case keep up the good work and I hope that you have a long career with MWFB.
