COULD MOLSON & LEE BE RIGHT?
I guess being involved in news/talk radio for over six years has blinded me to the realities of the world. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in what’s going on in politics that I forget what people care about. I think I learned that hard lesson yesterday when one of the biggest political news stories that have come down the pike in a while happened on October 28, 2005. Scooter Libby was indicted for lying to the FBI and lying to the Grand Jury. THAT’S HUGE!! HUGE, I TELL YA.
But I’m thinking that most people will just have to take my word for it. Why? ‘Cause most people don’t have a clue who Scooter Libby is.
Unless you watch Fox News or CNN, or you’re listening to WMAY or some other news/talk show, Scooter Libby means nothing to you.
How do I know this? I asked. I was at a Junior Blues game last night, and several people commented on the great job I did singing the National Anthem. (How self-serving was that last sentence?) I said THANK YOU, of course, and then asked… “Hey – how ‘bout that Scooter Libby? Pretty interesting, huh?” and the eyes of the people glazed over.
You get the idea. So could Molson & Lee be right? Have I been living in my little news/talk world so long that I have forgotten that people just don’t care about politics?
And let me take it a little step further. If people really don’t care, then I doubt that the liberal talking heads could be right. (Jim Leach, are you paying attention?) From the “left” side of the political world, people are leaping for joy. WOOO WHOOO! Scooter Libby charges…Bush Administration in a tailspin. The American people are learning that the Bush Administration uses lies and fabrications to dictate policy and take us to war.
BAH.
If the American people have no clue who Scooter Libby is, then how is this HUGE story that the majority of America isn’t paying attention to going to affect their opinion of the White House? And how can 2,000 people (the average number of people polled when the polling takes place) speak on behalf of nearly a billion people in this country? Are the 2,000 people news/talk junkies? Are they random people who HAPPEN to watch CNN & Fox News a lot? How old are the 2,000 people? Are the 2,000 people voters? What part of the country are the 2,000 selected from? And do they have any idea WHO Scooter Libby is?
Molson and Lee might be right. WHO CARES?

“Who?”
“Scooter Libby.”
“Isn’t that the guy who broke into the Watergate Hotel? Did he die?”
“No, no, that’s G. Gordon Liddy. He’s still alive. Scooter Libby, the Vice President’s Chief of Staff.”
“Oh. (pause) Who?”

Yes, if it's your guy it's always "who cares". Tell yourself that. You'll feel better about a flagrant violation of the law.
That’s what people downstream hear. Someone in the Bush administration broke the law. Do they remember the guy's name? No. Do they get that having an administration break the law is a bad thing? Yes. Be ware of getting your political advice from mental midgets like Molsen & Lee.
Please read latest blog, Dirty.
You could have condensed hours of typing into one little sentence:
"I'm still drinking the Kool-Aid."
