The answer is, "If they want to.", but a better question is why did you ask a race based question?
One in four cowboys were black, so your question reveals your ignorance about this history of the old West.
It also suggest that modern blacks aren't allowed to pretend to be cowboys today just like modern whites like to pretend that they are.

This is great. I have been wondering about why Whites are racists, and no other race is. Proud to be White Michael Richards makes his point... Michael Richards better known as Kramer from TVs Seinfeld does make a good point. This was his defense speech in court after making racial comments in his comedy act. He makes some very interesting points...
Someone finally said it... How many are actually paying attention to this? There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etc. And then there are just Americans. You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You call me 'White boy,' 'Cracker,' 'Honkey,' 'Whitey,' 'Caveman' ... and that's OK.
But when I call you, Nigger, Kike, Towel head, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink ... You call me a racist. You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you... so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?
You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Martin Luther King Day. You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day. You have Yom Hashoah. You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi. You have the NAACP. You have BET... If we had WET (White Entertainment Television) we'd be racists. If we had a White Pride Day, you would call us racists. If we had White History Month, we'd be racists.
If we had any organization for only whites to 'advance' OUR lives we'd be racists.
We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce.

A white woman could not be in the Miss Black American pageant, but any color can be in the Miss America pageant.
If we had a co llege fund that only gave white students scholarships...You know we'd be racists.
There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US .
Yet if there were 'White colleges' That would be a racist college.
In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights.
If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.
You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it.
But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.
You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.

Why is it that only whites can be racists??

Per your reading to me of the definition from that pantheon of unbiased knowledge, i.e. Wikipedia, that would mean that Sharpton, Jackson, Wright, et. al. are not racists. Your definition says they race pimp bigots.
If Wikipedia is your frame of reference, you must be a late graduate of a government school. Please get out of your mother's basement, read a book (if you can read), get away from your Gameboy, and learn to think for yourself and take a real look at the world around you while you still can.
How does the color of a man's skin have anything to do with what he 'should' let alone can wear?

As a conservative I'm tired of you giving democants a reason to brand us as racists. You did it this summer and even on air tried to backtrack the first 10 seconds before you admitted it. Your "buddies" called in their support and you felt justified then. They enabled you and you put up your blinders. The one or two supportive comments here will give you that same sense now. I mean seriously since when was the definition of a word on wikipedia biased. There is not doubt some artcicles might be biased but the system is well policed so the bias stays out. Then again it is technology so I can see why you'd dismiss it off the bat. I mean I have to give you credit for even knowing how to post on a blog... You know you did ask the man for a definition, and the Webster's one isn't that far off. Then again they're probably liberal too. As is McCain, Bush, etc. To you a conservative is probably someone like Thurman, or Heider, Le Pen, Pinochet... They give conservatives a bad name.
BTW Wikipedia is a wiki and is not controled by any one person. That is the definition of wiki. Jimmy Wales (HSV native) or some large left wing conspiracy does not control wikipedia. The users do and there are hundres of them. Hell one day I changed an article on Huntsville and they result was a 2 week debate on the structure of a sentence... It's a living encyclopedia. Then again you probably get your knowledge (sorry brain pain) from other sources...

I listen to Pamela Furr because I work in a home that listens to it. I think the whole broadcast system beats anything I have ever heard. I have never heard such "racist", yes, "racist" nonsense as I hear on WVNN. I think they should be banned from the airwaves. The so-called talk-shows are biased, bigoted, opinionated, ignorant to the real world, argumentative, and hate promoters. People who deny that this campaign is about race are liars. It's always been about "race". I am an African-American woman who will proudly say that I cast my vote for Senator Obama because he is black, just like many, many who are not voting for him just because he is a black man. I say that because I am proud that a black man is doing something that he is more than qualified to do and it makes me proud that in my time I am able to see this representation. Racism exists in all races, whether we admit it or not. Let's face it, the thought of a black man doing something that only white men have done (being President) is, to say the least, frightening to those who can't stand the idea of, oh, my God, a black man for...Our associations do not always determine who "we" ourselves are. Those who criticize the loudest probably have questionable associates, even family. Our individual character should speak for itself. Perhaps some of you who criticize should shake your own trees--no telling what might fall out. Some ask the question, "what has Sen. Obama done to qualify him to be president?" What did any past president do to qualify before he became president? Senator Obama has all the qualifications to make a good leader in anything he chooses to do. It's certainly more than I can say for some of our past leaders. How can anyone know how to be anything that they have never had a chance to do. No one know how until they became president. Gov. Palin is certainly not more qualified because she governed a small Alaskan town--how many choices could there have been when she governed? Give Senator Obama a chance--he might just effect some needed changes--"changes" in our would. We certainly cannot do any worse than we are right now. Yes, it's about race, and we all know it. If Sen. Obama was white, this all would not be going on the way it is.
