Even in the excessive heat, hell froze over last night... because (and I had no prior knowledge to this) RAY LYTLE is my fill-in host this week on WMAY.

Who knew that while I was helping Jim Leach while he was on vacaction (ok, I begged to move to the mornings this week) that you would have to listen to discussion on male rashes in those "private places" in the heat and a challenge to Bill's wife to "come down to the radio station so I can show you a real man"???

Well, enjoy him while you can, I guess. And listen to the Furr Burger all this week from 6am - 10am.

BARTOLOMUCCI MELTDOWN...

Wow! Interesting City Council meeting last night. Several council members took the time to comment on issues they think are important. Edwards on jobs, Smith on thieves stealing coils from air conditioners, and then there's Bartolomucci.

Apparently the Alderman and his family spent some time downtown this weekend and saw lots of trash on the streets. So, he decided to take pictures of it and bring it back to show his fellow council members and the press. ONLY - he forgot to bring the pictures to the meeting. INSTEAD his scolded the Mayor for supposedly saying the city is "all cleaned up" to the newspaper, when in fact, Bartolomucci says "you lied to the press and you lied to the people."

Now, my first question, and really the only relevant question is "Alderman, instead of taking pictures of the trash, why didn't you pick up the trash?"

The Mayor, of course, asked that same brilliant question.

The answer was a defiant, snooty, "I'm better than that" kind of response. "I pay tax dollars for someone else to do that..."

Yo, Joe - get off your high horse and make Springfield a better place to live. We all have to do our part, you know.

FLIP FLOPS TO THE WHITE HOUSE? NO NO NO NO!!

Flip flops in style - yes. Flip flops appropriate for every occasion? NO. Come on folks, it's not rocket science. It's not even politics. It's about respect for the office and it's about appropriate attire.

If you don't believe me, why not believe these "fashion" experts.

"Definitely a faux pas," says Suze Yalof Schwartz, executive fashion editor-at-large of Glamour magazine, "It is just inappropriate. "They're great for the beach," she says. "They're great for hanging out with your friends. But they're clearly unprofessional. And if you're going to the White House, cover up your toes."

"They are so in fashion, but they're in fashion in your life," Yalof Schuartz says. "They're not in fashion in the office, especially if you work in a corporate environment."

(from CBS news) She notes you probably will not get promoted if you wear flip-flops, even if the flip-flops are beaded. This is especially true in a corporate environment. If you think they are appropriate, you need a subscription to Glamour magazine, Yalof Schuartz says. "This is not professional. This is fun for a long skirt if you're going out at night. It is a festive look, but not for the office. You don't want to see someone's toes unless they're on a little bit of a heel. The heel, such as a Sabrina heel, and the material of the shoe are key."

"Plastic is definitely a don't," Yalof Schuartz says. "For women, it is good to show a lot of toe. Toe is hot in the summer, as long as it's in a high-heeled strappy sandal." Just make sure your toes are pedicured.

IF YOU'LL JUST WAIT, THE TRUTH WILL REVEAL ITSELF

I've said it since day one. Let's wait and see what happens. Let's wait and see what the investigation proves. And sure enough, over the weekend we find out that someone in the Vice President's office spoke to Matt Cooper about Virginia Plame's identity. Take a deep breath everyone. I'm sure the President will deal with his people once everything is laid out on the table. If Rove needs to go, he'll go. If this new person involed (Scooter) needs to go, he'll go.

As the investigation progresses, we'll learn more. JUST CHILL OUT AND LET THE TRUTH DO WHAT IT DOES SO WELL... reveals itself when the time is right.

DID YOU KNOW? (more about Karl Rove)

...that Virginia Plame may not have been an "undercover" CIA agent for the last 8 years? Did you know that her husband Joe Wilson lied about who actually sent him to Niger to investigate whether or not the country sold uranium to Hussein?

I just find it interesting that those two facts have been conveniently left out when those looking for the head of Karl Rove on a platter yell "He must be fired." (thank you bitter man John Kerry)

I also find it interesting that getting lost in the shuffle is the fact that Rove was considered "a source" on the story that Matt Cooper & Judith Miller were working on -- BUT NEVER PRINTED. I don't think anyone has said yet that Rove was THE SOURCE.

Let it also be noted that Fitzgerald, the special prosecutor here, has said that Karl Rove is not the focus of his investigation.

Just wanted to point these things out. Blog on.

HOMOSEXUALITY = PEDOPHILIA?

I found out today, during our discussion about homosexual priests in the Roman Catholic church, that some of you believe it is NOT SO MUCH a stretch to think that a homosexual male could be interested in little boys. WHAT THE ??? Let me get this straight (no pun). If you're a guy, and you're into men -- you've been in a committed relationship with a man, and so forth, it's easy for you to believe that the same man would have interest in committing a crime with a young innocent boy?

If that is indeed the case, then you have to use the same logic with heterosexual men. If you're a guy and you're into women, can it also be NOT SO MUCH a stretch to think that you're also into young innocent girls?

ARE STRAIGHT MEN ALLOWED TO BUY B-DAY CARDS FOR CO-WORKERS?

Okay -

In EVERY SINGLE OFFICE I'VE WORKED IN, the cake, birthday card, etc is ALWAYS purchased by a woman or the gay guy there. Are straight men fundamentally not allowed to do these things for their co-workers? Is it an unspoken rule? Will you be forevermore labeled as "sissy boy" if you walk into the workplace with a bundle of balloons and an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins?

Come on men - speak up!

The crows are circling waiting to feed off the remains of Karl Rove...

Here's the latest: (from the AP)

For two years, the White House has insisted that presidential adviser Karl Rove had nothing to do with the leak of a CIA officer's identity. And President Bush said the leaker would be fired.

But Bush's spokesman wouldn't repeat any of those assertions Monday in the face of Rove's own lawyer saying his client spoke with at least one reporter about Valerie Plame's role at the CIA before she was identified in a newspaper column.

Rove described the woman to a reporter as someone who "apparently works" at the CIA, according to an e-mail obtained by Newsweek magazine.

White House press secretary Scott McClellan refused to discuss the matter at two news briefings Monday. He said he would not comment because the leak is the focus of a federal criminal investigation. "The prosecutors overseeing the investigation had expressed a preference to us that one way to help the investigation is not to be commenting on it from this podium," McClellan said in response to a barrage of questions about Rove and the previous White House denials.

"I'm well aware, like you, of what was previously said," McClellan said. "And I will be glad to talk about it at the appropriate time." He said the appropriate time would be when the investigation is completed.

We'll have to wait to see what happens. I still stand by the "if" factor. If he did something illegal, then Karl Rove should be fired.

KILL OR BE KILLED

I'm still confused at the notion of some of you who listen to WMAY who actually think that the London attacks are a result of the war in Iraq. These terrorists never needed an excuse before 9/11, why on earth would you think that they do now? They've been hating anyone who is NOT them for decades now, why should this attack be motivated by anything different than before?

Although my colleague Jim Leach continues to deny it, he spouted these very things AGAIN this morning on his show. He said over and over again...

Jim says (I'm quoting from his blog) "... But many pro-war types, including Bush himself, have tried to justify Iraq after the fact (after the WMD rationale evaporated and we weren't greeted as liberators with rose pedals thrown at our feet) by claiming that if we're fighting the terrorists there, we won't have to fight them at home.The British learned first-hand today how nonsensical that is."

Did anyone ever say that ALL terrorists are now in Iraq? "BUSH HIMSELF" has never said that it is an absolute -- that all terrorists are now there and that's where we will fight them. Give me a break.

Here's the truth. The world IS A BETTER PLACE without Saddam Hussein in power. We will continue to support the country (Iraq) until they are ready to defend themselves. We will continue to track Osama AND THOSE THAT SERVE HIM and bring them to justice.

For anyone NOT to think that there will continue to be suicide bombers, explosions, attacks, and loss of life is not living in the real world. That's the reality of it, and I support George W & Blair and anyone else who stands firm in that these evil ones will not WIN.

FRED THOMPSON TO THE RESCUE

I love Fred Thompson. I voted for him twice in Tennessee when he ran for US Senate. Word has it now that he will help shephard President Bush’s yet-to-be-named Supreme Court nominee through the Senate. Thompson will act as an informal advisor. Now that's a good call, Mr. President.

I HATE GETTING SICK ...

...because there's nothing to do when you're sick, except well, what you do when you're sick. So I have my laptop in bed with me, the radio on - listening to Molson and Lee, and I'm flipping through the channels on my digital cable. NOTHING ON -- I've checked all 200 channels.

I hate getting sick...

WHAT DID KARL ROVE KNOW and when did he leak it?

NEWSWEEK is reporting that Karl Rove's name is mentioned as a source in Matt Cooper's story that outed Valerie Plame as an undercover CIA agent. Could it be? If it's true, did Karl Rove break the law? And if he did, shouldn't he then be asked to resign from the White House?

OR --- could it be the liberal left clamoring for anything -- ANYTHING to take down this man they hate so much?
